Proverbs 23:15,16 ARTB Guts, Soul
My son, when your heart wisens, my heart joys. Also my guts rejoice as your lips speak for justice.
(Proverbs 23:15,16) ARTB

Note from A. Frances Werner:

This is a case where the original Hebrew is signalling something to us that is a bit odd at first glance, and perhaps easy to ignore.  The word GUTS is translated in the NIV, NASB and NAB as INMOST BEING, in the KJV as REINS, and in the NRSV as SOUL.

But the original Hebrew (KLYH, Strong's 3629b) is a low frequency word that is clearly different than the the word normally translated as SOUL.  The word INMOST-BEING (with a hyphen) could have been used in the ARTB, but there are other references which are more clearly associated with very specific inner organs, KIDNEYS.  This is not a generalized word.

Even today we often use the phrase "GUT FEEL".  We know that that is a very different sense than what our hearts experience.  Usually it applies to a more logical sense of direction or what's right rather than an emotional response.  The ancient Israelites knew there was a difference too.
Thus, this passage could be paraphrased:  Son, when you learn wisdom in your emotional life, my heart jumps up and down.  When you demonstrate concrete steps in your external life, my guts know you are on solid ground.
