Yahweh God ascends with fanfare, with the voice of a shofar. (Psalm 47:5) ARTB
A note from A. Frances Werner:
Last week I had a note about the difference between TRUMPET and SHOFAR. There are two other interesting related words about musical instruments in this wonderful passage. The first is VOICE (QOL, Strong's 6963), which is used over 500 times in the Old Testament. Most other translations use the word SOUND when describing the output of musical instruments, which certainly is consistent with modern English. However, the Israelites did not have a separate word for the concept of sound. Whether they were hearing a shofar or thunder, they were automatically geared to understanding that there was a message that should be heeded--a VOICE was speaking to them.
The other fun word is FANFARE. This unique word (TRUAH, Strong's 8643) is used 36 times in the Old Testment, but is ususally translated as a trumpet BLAST or SHOUTS. The designation of FANFARE exists only in ARTB--but this is one I'm very confident that it is the correct unique word. It describes exactly the sound of trumpets when kings arrive, when battle is eminent, and when there is a call to the sanctuary. The 36 verses are wonderful, and I've included them below for you to examine. If they don't appear, you can always access them under ARTB BIBLE SEARCH at the website. Enjoy!

1Chronicles 17:1, ARTB, CURTAINS,TENT |
|
As David was dwelling in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, "I dwell here in a house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under CURTAINS!"
(1Chronicles 17:1) ARTB
A note from A. Frances Werner:
In most translations, the word TENT is used instead of CURTAINS. However, there are two distinct Hebrew words underlying those two English words. The specifications for the TENT (OHEL, Strong's 168) in Moses' time described the structure of the area for the ark and the tables for incense, bread and the menorah. CURTAINS (YRIA, Strong's 3407) were used to separate the much larger outside court from the rest of the community.
This suggests to me that the ark was dwelling in an extremely temporary set-up, not even "up to code" for the sanctuary TENT specified to Moses.

Do you believe the story of JONAH? |
|
The mariners feared, and the men cried to his god, and hurled articles in the ship into the sea, cursing them. But Jonah descended into the edge of the shipdeck, and lay keeled-over.
(Jonah 1:5) ARTB
A note from A. Frances Werner:
Do you believe the story of Jonah really happened? I often find that people quote this story as proof that the Old Testament is mythology.
Today's verse occurs immediately prior to Jonah being thrown overboard and swallowed by a fish. He spent three days there before being vomited to the dry-land, to get back on track to head to Mosul, Iraq.
I remind people that one very important person in history took the story of Jonah seriously, and not as a fairy tale. When they ask "Who?", I point to Jesus, Yeshua, who is quoted in Matthew 12 and 16, and Luke 11 saying that Jonah being in the belly for three days was a sign, and the Son-of-Man would do the same.
