ARTB Bible Blog 11.22.10 Dot-to-Dot: Anointing to Christian

He has anointed us and sealed us, and granted the down-payment of his Spirit-wind in our hearts. (2 Corinthians 1:22,23 ARTB Draft)

A note from A. Frances Werner:

The title of Yeshua (Jesus), MESSIAH, is Hebrew for the word ANOINTED (Strong's 4886).  We know of His anointing from Isaiah 61:2 (Yahweh ANOINTED me to bring good-news to the humble).  But it would also be more correct to call Him The ANOINTED and The ANOINTER.

There were three groups in ancient Israel that were ANOINTED: the priests, the king, and prophets.  The rest of the people, over 90% of the population, were not anointed.

For example, to be installed to the priesthood required several steps:  Washing at the laver, donning of priestly base garments, and ANOINTING (Exodus 40:12-15).  Washing at the laver, or being baptized for the forgiveness of sins is not sufficient to become a priest.  That's why John's baptism was only part of the process of becoming a Christian (which is Greek for ANOINTED) and wasn't considered complete without the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:2).

The plan of Yahweh, fulfilled in Yeshua (Jesus) by forgiving our sins, and to go further: To ANOINT us with the Holy Spirit, to make us a royal priesthood, a holy nation, ANOINTED in service to our God.
